If it is possible to fall in love with a place then this has been one of the most consistently meaningful relationships in my life. For over 30 years I have been going to the same location; a collection of cottages owned by one family who purchased the land in Cornwall in the 1940’s.
They created a place so perfect, seemingly caught in a moment of suspended time, that once under the spell most people cannot help but return.
My introduction was through a friend who had been employed to teach children art for a few hours a day in exchange for accomodation in a beautiful static caravan. For the first few years, this was where we would stay, slowly migrating to the cottages as we began to bring our partners and eventually babies.
The early years still hold the most perfect moments of peaceful joy and uncomplicated friendships.
